Important: Hackers Managed to Hack Linux Mint ISO.!
According to official Linux mint blog, hackers managed to hack Linux Mint website and successfully modified Linux mint ISO, with a back-door in it.
Users who downloaded Linux Mint ISO on February 20th their computers are on high risk.
How to check if you are running effected version of Linux Mint:
Linux Mint claimed, the only compromised edition was Linux Mint 17.3 Cinnamon edition. If you downloaded an other release or another edition, then you shouldn’t be the victim of this. if your download source was a direct HTTP link or Torrent link, it doesn’t effect you either.
How To verify your OS or ISO is compromised ?
Check you ISO file MD5 signature first with md5sun command â€œmd5sum linux-mint-iso-file.isoâ€.
The valid signatures are below:
To verify your DVD or USB Sticks in case you burn it.
Boot your computer with OS DVD/USB and load live session.
Note:- Make sure you are not connected with INTERNET during live OS running
If below command result found man.cy file, its mean you are running infected version of Linux mint.!
What to do if infected?
- Disconnect your computer from the Internet
- Backup your important data
- Reinstall Operating System with non-effected ISO
- Immediately change passwords for all your online accounts which you access using infected computer
