The update will remove the black bars that users normally get with vertical videos.

With this new update, the YouTube mobile app will dynamically adapt the size and adjust the screen according to video your choice to watch. That means if you are watching vertical, horizontal or square video the player will adjust the screen itself exactly the way they should.

After getting this update for iOS users, vertical videos can be viewed in full screen by removing the annoying black bars which make them difficult to watch in full screen. The update is already released for Apple users.
